How to Tame Unruly Eyebrows— Should I Trim My Brows?

Wiry and unruly eyebrows are a common problem. Luckily for you, I have a fool-proof method for making sure your eyebrows are gorgeous, full, and shapely!

How to Tame Unruly Eyebrows

Brows frame our face the way eyelashes frame our eyes. It’s important to make sure that the eyebrow doesn’t draw attention away from the face with its odd shape or wayward hairs. Over the years, I’ve done my fair share of tweezing, shaping, and sculpting eyebrows as a makeup artist.

Lots of women come to me with heavy sideways comma brow or a tadpole brow— a brow with a heavy beginning. This is because of over-tweezing when the eyebrow hairs have grown too long.

The solution is simple! Hare are a few easy and achievable ways to tame your brows:

  1. Trim any wayward hairs.

Many women ask me, “Should I tame my eyebrow hairs?” My answer is yes! Trimming is the number one way to create shape in a brow, even more than tweezing.

Pro tip: Don’t trim the hairs starting from the top of your arc to the end of your brow. When combed back, longer hairs in this area will help to cover up any bare spots in your brow.

Go From Unruly to Shapely Eyebrows

  1. Fill and define.

Now that your hairs are trimmed, you’re going to be left looking a little sparse. Here’s where the brow pencil comes in! Using the pencil, follow the shape of your natural brow to fill and define.

Light to medium complexions will work well with my BROW PENCIL IN NATURAL TAUPE. It’s the perfect pencil to fill in and finish the brow. Because the product glides on so seamlessly, it also works great to tame unruly brows if you don’t want to trim.

Use a brush to blend the product into your brow hairs for a more natural look.

  1. Add some gel.

Going over your brow with an eyebrow gel or an eyebrow mascara will help set any product added.

Use short, gentle strokes to comb back any hairs that may still be a tad bit unruly.

If you don’t have an eyebrow gel or mascara,  here are some quick and simple alternatives you can do without running out for more product:

  • Spray a bit of hairspray on your index finger and run it gently over your finished brow. Ouila! Perfection.
  • Use a dash of lip gloss to smooth any leftover unruly hairs.
  • A small dab of aloe vera will also do the trick!
